Our story

Geolja: Roots of Renaissance

The name "Geolja" evokes the oldest, most tenacious soul of Gioia Tauro.

Founded around 950 AD, this village represented the first medieval settlement in the area, born at a crucial moment for the survival of the local community.

In an era marked by devastating Saracen raids and depopulation caused by malaria, a small group of inhabitants chose not to abandon the land. They sought refuge on higher ground — drier, healthier, more defensible than the coastal settlements below. From this act of strategic hope, "Geolja" was born: the seed of what would become the historic town centre, now known as "Piano delle Fosse".

Perched on a rocky spur, the village grew as a fortified citadel, distinguished by a remarkable network of hypogeal cisterns — chambers cut into the stone to protect reserves of grain, oil, and wine. To name our hospitality "Geolja" means honouring this legacy: a tribute to those who knew how to begin again, transforming a place of refuge into a centuries-long symbol of identity and welcome.

B&B Geolja: Where Hospitality Finds Home

The story of B&B Geolja did not begin with a business plan. It began with a shared vision around a family table. In 2018, Girolamo — driven by a deep bond with his land and a natural gift for welcoming others — decided to turn an idea he had carried for years into something real.

Together with his family, Girolamo set out to fill a genuine gap: a place of quality in a strategic location, one that could combine the warmth of a home with the reliability of a well-run establishment.

A Project Crafted in Every Detail

This was not a race against time, but a steady search for rightness. Every corner of B&B Geolja was considered, designed, and built with care. From the choice of materials to the arrangement of furnishings, the goal was singular: the genuine comfort of each guest.

The family's meticulous attention shows in the atmosphere you feel from the moment you cross the threshold — a balance between modernity and the feeling of home, where nothing is left to chance.

Strategic Location: The Heart of Calabria

Geolja's greatest practical strength is its accessibility. Located just 500 metres from the Gioia Tauro motorway junction, the B&B has become the natural reference point for different kinds of travellers.

For those travelling for work: proximity to major roads means fast, unhurried movement, while the surroundings remain quiet and calm — the right conditions to rest properly between long days.

For those travelling for pleasure: the B&B becomes the ideal base for exploring Calabria — the Costa Viola, the Costa degli Dei, the Serre mountains, and the Aspromonte national park.

"We wanted to create a place where logistics meets feeling. We want every guest — arriving after a long journey or a full day of work — to feel, at last, in the right place."

— — Girolamo, founder

Today, B&B Geolja continues to grow, carrying forward the dream born in 2018 with the same passion as the first day, and the knowledge that hospitality is an art cultivated in the details.
