A name that comes from the first medieval village of Gioia Tauro, and a house opened to the public in 2019, born from a family vision: to combine the warmth of a home with the precision of a great hotel.
The story of B&B Geolja does not begin with a simple project, but with a shared vision around a family table. It is 2018 when Girolamo, moved by a deep bond with his land and an innate gift for hospitality, decides to turn an intuition he had years earlier into reality.
Together with his family he imagines a place that can fill a gap: a refuge of excellence in a strategic location, able to combine the warmth of a home with the precision of a great hotel.
The name «Geolja» evokes the oldest and most tenacious soul of Gioia Tauro.
Founded around 950 AD, the village of Geolja was the first medieval settlement of the city. In an age marked by Barbary raids and depopulation caused by malaria, a small group of inhabitants chose not to abandon the territory and sought refuge in a higher, drier and healthier position than the coastal settlements.
Perched on a rocky spur, the village grew as a fortified citadel — the present-day old town, known as Piano delle Fosse, after the evocative system of underground pits carved into the stone to protect reserves of grain, oil and wine.
Choosing this name means honouring that legacy: a tribute to those who knew how to start again, turning a place of defence into a centuries-old landmark of identity and hospitality.

Every corner of the B&B was conceived, designed and built down to the smallest detail: from the choice of materials to the layout of the furnishings, the goal is one — the guest's absolute comfort. Just 500 metres from the Gioia Tauro motorway junction, Geolja is the ideal base both for those travelling for work — quick journeys, a quiet and refined setting to recharge — and for those travelling for pleasure, as a base camp to explore the coast and the places of interest of Calabria.
